What kind of processing method is powder metallurgy?

Powder metallurgy is a process technology that produces metal or uses metal powder as raw materials, after forming and sintering, to produce metal materials, composites and various types of products.

Powder metallurgy technology process
1. Powder preparation and compression molding

Commonly used mechanical pulverization, atomization, physical and chemical methods to prepare powder. The prepared powder is sieved and mixed, the materials are uniformly mixed and appropriate plasticizers are added, and then compressed into shape. The atoms between the powder particles are solid-phase diffusion and mechanical occlusion, so that the parts are combined into a whole with a certain strength. . The greater the pressure, the greater the density of the part and the corresponding increase in strength. Sometimes in order to reduce the pressure and increase the density of the parts, the method of hot isostatic pressing can also be used.

2. Sintering
The pressed part is placed in a closed furnace with a reducing atmosphere for sintering, and the sintering temperature is about 2/3 to 3/4 times the melting point of the base metal. Due to the diffusion of different kinds of atoms at high temperature, the reduction of the oxides on the powder surface and the recrystallization of the deformed powder, the powder particles are combined with each other, which improves the strength of powder metallurgy products and obtains a structure similar to that of general alloys. There are still some tiny pores in the sintered parts, which are porous materials.
Three, post-processing
Under normal circumstances, the sintered parts can achieve the required performance and can be used directly. But sometimes, necessary post-processing is required. For example, precision pressing treatment can improve the density and dimensional accuracy of the parts; quenching and surface quenching treatments on iron-based powder metallurgy parts can improve their mechanical properties; oil immersion or immersion for lubrication or corrosion resistance. Liquid lubricant; the infiltration treatment of infiltrating low melting point metal into the pores of the part can improve the strength, hardness, plasticity or impact toughness of the part.
Powder metallurgy parts are widely used in various industries: automobile industry, synchronizer hubs, synchronizer rings, pulleys, synchronizers; various bearings, powder metallurgy gears, metal structural parts, etc. are widely used in machinery manufacturing
